Portnoy's Gratitude

William Paquet

Last week, Portnoy was certain the “error” was nothing short of bigotry. Certain. Today he realizes it was merely an oversight thanks to Corporate’s donation to The Cause.

Level 2 now ensues in earnest. Raging against the machine is not good enough anymore.

Portnoy slid into his Dodge Dart, cranked The Stooges and told little Joey to buckle up. “No kid of mine will be treated this way. Make bank on that, haters.”

“Dad, it’s okay.”

“Not okay, Joey. Hey, next week is your birthday! What kind of cupcakes this year?”

“Something sophisticated. I only turn 30 once.”

“Good boy.”
